Our program went on a city tour today, during which I learned much about Marburg, but also about fairy tales, since the Brothers Grimm lived here and there are statues everywhere featuring scenes from their stories, including the frog prince atop the wall, because APPARENTLY the princess did not kiss him, but instead chucked him at the wall, at which point he turned into a charming prince (they’re always charming) and, still liking, put a ring on it. Which, what? Also, I knew I’d grown up with the Disneyfied version of many fairy tales, but I learned of the princess and the frog prince in French class at my Canadian elementary school.
I can’t believe anything anymore in this post-Marburg city tour world, is what I’m saying.
